Does RV insurance cover roof leaks and water damage in Ontario?
Sometimes, and it depends entirely on your policy. Sudden events such as a windstorm, hail, or a tree limb through the roof are the claims insurers most often consider. Water that seeped in for months through cracked sealant is usually treated as wear and maintenance, and many policies exclude it. Read the exclusions, call your broker, and get the damage documented before anything is repaired. We never promise coverage. We give you the evidence.
Tree or storm damage: the first 48 hours
What you do before the adjuster calls shapes the claim:
- Stay off a roof with a branch on it or visible structural sag. Photograph from the ground and a ladder instead
- Photograph everything before anything is moved, cut, or covered, including the interior
- Tarp the opening only if it’s safe to, and keep the receipt
- Report the event to your insurer promptly and ask what they need from a repair estimate
- Don’t start permanent repairs before the adjuster has seen the damage or agreed to photos
- Ask us for a documented inspection and a scoped estimate to send with the claim
What we can document
Roof condition photos, close-ups of the damage, interior photos, written notes on what we found, and repair estimates with a clear scope. Everything is dated and organized. We document what is there. Your insurer decides what is covered.
What insurance may ask for
Adjusters usually want to see the damage, understand the cause, and review a repair scope with pricing. We write estimates with that in mind, and document thoroughly because every insurer’s requirements differ.
How much does an RV insurance repair estimate cost?
There’s no flat rate, and a price given before anyone sees the roof is a guess. Final pricing depends on roof size, roof condition, prep requirements, travel, access, visible damage, and hidden damage found during inspection. So we start from photos or an inspection.
| Factor | Why it moves the price |
|---|---|
| Roof size | More surface is more material and more labour |
| Roof condition | Chalking, failed sealant, and prior repairs add prep |
| Prep required | Prep is most of the job; removal and cleaning vary widely |
| Travel and access | Distance, site access, and setup affect the visit |
| Visible damage | Repairs found up front are scoped into the estimate |
| Hidden damage | What the inspection uncovers below the surface |
You see the full estimate before any work begins. Nothing gets done that you haven’t approved, and the number doesn’t change without your say-so.
